Workshops

The open workshops are a place for wood and woodworking lovers, women and men, young or not so young, beginners with no previous experience and advanced woodworkers.

  • The workshop sessions are four hours long, in a spacious, safe and well equipped workshop, in groups of up to five participants.
  • Each session includes some theoretical explanations, demonstrations and hands on experience,
    while using a variety of materials, hand tools and power tools.
  • The first four sessions (approximately) are structured, and serve as an initial introduction to the wood-working world and to the workshop.
  • Next, the participants are invited to express their personal preferences, in terms of the field of woodworking they choose to focus on, the type of product and the design, with close personal guidance.
  • Each participant is independent within the group and acquires skills at a personal pace, through hands on experience.

The main areas of activity are wood carving and wood sculpture,

the Scroll Saw and fine woodwork.

Wood Carving and Wood Sculpture, with both hand and power tools,
Participants are invited to create, inspired by fauna and flora or by their inner worlds,
to create utensils; bowls and spoons, or to attempt an abstract piece,
and one can also choose to focus on the biggest challenge of all – the human body,
one can work with roots and logs that often lead the artist and the art piece,
or prepare a block of wood to fit the planned sculpture.
• Scroll saw, small and quiet, power saw, which is installed from a thin, rising, and descending.
Using the Scroll Saw, one can produce a range of high quality sawing types,
in wood, veneer, plywood and other materials,
like metal sheets, plastic sheets, leather, cloth and paper.
With a Scroll Saw, one can create
toys and atrifacts, original and personal gifts,
boxes and clocks, signs and puzzles, inlays and bowls,
veneer marquetry, Intarsia works and more.
Fine wood working – one can create decorative objects and special furniture items, using carpentry machines and power and manual tools.
In addition, one can try pyrography, learn how to make the best out of the Router, and learn how to work with branches in their natural form. It is possible, and recommended to try the various fields of wood working and to combine techniques.

• The workshop is not the place for building big furniture pieces, such as cabinets, bookcases, beds etc’.

Costs

275 NIS, including VAT, for each four-hour session.

  • one can join for two sessions a month at 550 NIS per month
    Or
    For four sessions a month, 1,100 NIS per month.
  • In the structured phase described above, the price includes everything.
    Later on, wood and hardware will be charged separately. The rest remains included.
  • Wood and hardware can be purchased independently, or purchased at the shop at the supplier’s price + 15%.
Workshops take place four times a week:

Mornings: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 09:00-13:00, Fri 08:30-12:30
Evening: Wednesday 17:00-21:00

  • One can join any time, subject to availability, for a permanent and reserved time.
  • When joining, a minimum of four sessions is required.
  • One can leave at any time.
  • You can join on a two sessions a month basis
    Or
    on a four sessions a month basis (every week).
  • The annual activity in the workshop starts in October, after the autumn holidays and ends at the end of July.
  • The workshop is closed on Saturdays and on holidays during the year, during Chol HaMoed Pesach and from the beginning of August until after the autumn holidays.
